You’ve Made Your Resolutions; Now What?
The new year is here and with it comes resolutions. Making them is easy, but how do you stick to them? Read on for some tips on sticking to your resolutions.
Be Realistic With Your Goals
When setting your goals for the year, choose them based on what you think is attainable for you. If you commit to things that you know up front are going to be difficult for you to maintain, you may be setting yourself up for failure. Keep the resolutions aimed at concrete goals that you can create a plan around. Once you have the goals outlined, create a plan to hold yourself accountable and set milestones along the way to keep yourself motivated.
Talk About Your Goals
Talking about your goals with friends and family is another way to keep yourself accountable and to gain support. If your goals are extremely personal, don’t feel like you need to give details. Joining a support group for people with similar goals can also be a great way to get the support you need. Being surrounded by those working towards the same objectives can be extremely helpful along your journey.
Be Kind to Yourself
We are all human and mistakes or slipups can happen. If you miss a workout, schedule another one. If you eat a doughnut, commit to vegetables tomorrow. Whatever your goal is, it is worth getting back on track if it was worth it to you in the first place. All is not lost over one bad day! Take it slowly, reevaluate your plan to see if you can make changes that will help in the future, and get back to it.
Reward Your Success
Along the road to success, make sure to stop and give yourself credit for what you are doing. It may be as simple as an internal pat on the back when you see a certain number on the scale, or you may have set specific rewards for yourself in your initial plan. Whatever it is, make sure you are giving yourself the credit you deserve.
