Designing Your Home to Sell
When looking to get the most out of your home sale, the topic of staging may have come up. By highlighting your home’s strengths and downplaying its weaknesses, you can help yourself attract the most potential buyers. Here are some tips to help you stage your home like the pros:
Say Goodbye to Clutter
When preparing your home for sale, one of the most important things you can do is to remove as much clutter as possible. This will help potential buyers see the features and design of the home without anything blocking their view. When looking to declutter, don’t overlook the furniture in a room. By removing a few pieces your rooms could look much larger.
Keep it Neutral
If your personal paint style involves bold walls or even if you stick with off-white, it is time to look at bringing in the neutrals. Today, the definition of neutral goes way beyond traditional beiges. Look for anything from cool greys, warm tans, and even soft blue-greens. Make sure that the colors you choose highlight the room and keep things light and open.
Don’t Take it Personal
To help potential buyers see themselves in your space, remove anything personal from the home. This includes family photos, souvenirs, and even some magazines and books. Let the buyers use their imaginations and create a personal attachment to the space on their own. Also, if you have pets, try to remove beds, bowls, litter boxes, and any sign of them prior to a showing.
Style Your Table
Large dining tables can look imposing when bare. Set your table with nice linens, plates and glassware to show of the entertaining appeal of the space. If you do not have the desire to set up a full table, a few different sized vases along the center of the table can look more inviting than one large piece.
Master the Master
Do your best to create a neutral and serene master bedroom. If your style involves lots of dainty, frilly pillows or rock and roll posters, remove those during the sale process and focus on creating a space for anyone to enjoy. Look for bedding and pillows that look and feel luxurious to help potential buyers envision themselves relaxing in the space.
