6 Major Well-Being Mistakes You Might Be Making
It’s been nearly a year since the pandemic made its big debut in the United States… Sorry for the reminder! If you’ve been feeling anxious about what’s next, in a funk or just completely over it… You’re not alone. It’s totally normal to feel the fatigue of 2020… Afterall the current situation at hand has truly outstayed its welcome. We think we can all agree a hard reset is needed; here are 6 common well-being mistakes you might be making and more importantly, how you can fix them!
MISTAKE #1: Waking up on the Wrong Side of the Bed.
SOLUTION: Rise, Shine & Take Control.
If you’re starting your morning off rushed—with very little time to get ready, fuel up or find any sort of routine—you might be setting yourself up for a day full of anxiety and chaos. Instead, try setting your alarm an hour earlier than you usually would and don’t press snooze. Do something that makes you feel accomplished first thing before you attend to your email inbox. Then create a list of mini goals you want to accomplish by the end of the day. This will help you focus your energy, feel a sense of control and truly get things done!
MISTAKE #2: Letting Your Negative Thoughts Rule You.
SOLUTION: Develop a Healthy Mindset.
Take time to recognize the good you have in your life at this very moment. How is life happening for you? What are the goals that you are working toward? What truly brings you joy? Write these things down every single day. Doing so will help you start to recognize the positives more easily. Mindset is a big factor regarding the quality of your day-to-day life, putting in the work to flip your mindset from negative to positive will prove to be wildly beneficial.
MISTAKE #3: Pushing Yourself Past Your Limits.
SOLUTION: Calm It Down & Talk It Out.
Now more than ever we really need a safe place to retreat to when we are feeling stressed. We love the idea of dedicating one area of your home to simply relaxing. Give this spot the most calming vibe possible by incorporating cooler toned colors like blues and purples, adding plants, opening up those shades and installing warm-toned light bulbs. Calming scents such as lavender, eucalyptus, jasmine or vanilla can help you feel more calm as well. Now that you have the perfect space, cozy up, reflect on how you are feeling and communicate to those closest to you. A simple conversation can go a long way and can make you feel a big sense of relief.
MISTAKE #4: Neglecting your Physical Health.
SOLUTION: Give Back to Your Body.
If your body feels well-cared for, so does your mind. Eat well, hydrate, rest and move your body. When you make a habit of eating nourishing foods, drinking all the water your body needs, getting ample sleep each night and moving your body daily you will begin to have the energy to push through the day and thrive. It doesn’t have to be drastic, it just has to be something!
MISTAKE #5: Staying Connected At All Times.
SOLUTION: Choose What You Consume.
It’s no secret that the media coverage has been absolutely bonkers this past year. If the news, social media or any other form of technology is making you feel anxious, take a break. Technology can be a beautiful tool to bring us together, but sometimes it’s just too much. There’s no shame in the unplugged game.
MISTAKE #6: Coasting Through Life.
SOLUTION: Be Intentional With Where You Devote Your Energy.
When we have a lack of routine or purpose, it’s easy to let things just come and go. While a relaxed lifestyle is beneficial, being too lax about the wrong things can be a big mistake. It’s important to make time for the things that matter. A cluttered life makes for a cluttered mind. Having your house a mess can make life feel even crazier. Tackle one project at a time and watch your mindset get cleaned up too. It’s also really important to make time for things that fill your cup and bring you joy. Maybe it’s ordering take-out, taking a bubble bath, having a cup of coffee out on your front porch or going for a long walk by yourself. Whatever it is, make it a priority.
